Dominic Kirwan - biography

Although Dominic enjoys superstar status today with chart-topping albums and phenomenally successful concert tours, his Irish roots and early musical influences can still be seen in his live shows.
Join Dominic and his band for an unforgettable evening of music delivered in his own inimitable style!

Success will never spoil this well-mannered star who places great value on the opinions of his countless fans. He fondly recalls growing up in Omagh in a home full of laughter, music and traditional dancing. Dominic’s undoubted talent as a dancer was recognised by the prestigious Seamus Kerrigan School of Irish Dancing and these lessons soon paid off when Dominic began winning competitions both at home and abroad.

Musically Dominic followed his dream and fronted a variety of local bands including his own group, The Melody Boys. The band soon became popular favourites on the live circuit, catering for all tastes with their wide range of songs featuring rock, pop, rhythm & blues, Irish ballads and country songs.

After several years of performing and developing his “style”, Dominic was signed to one of Ireland and the UK’s leading independent labels whom he felt had his interests at heart and guaranteed the total support and commitment needed to take the next step on his road to stardom. The first fruits of this new relationship came with the release of a 4 track EP called “The Green ---- Rolling Still” followed by his debut Ritz album “Try a Little Kindness”.

Further albums followed and, now established as an artist in his own right and headlining his own tours, Dominic not only hosted his own TV series but also picked up the prestigious BBC Entertainment Media of the Year Award for Easy Listening / Country Music.

It was the album “On The Way To a Dream” which gave him his first chart topping success. This held the top spot in the UK Country Chart and was followed with the top selling video “Dominic Kirwan In Concert” when he joined pop stars U2, Bon Jovi and Queen in the charts confirming his growing appeal.

As often happens, the release of the compilation “ The Very Best of Dominic Kirwan “ marked the first chapter of his career and also proved to be the perfect introduction to his music for many new fans.

In 1999 Dominic took time to travel to Nashville where he was teamed with top record producer Ronnie Light and some of Nashville’s best know musicians. The result was the stunning “ Unconditional Love “ album that once again took Dominic to the top of the British country charts. He returned to Nashville in each of the following two years to repeat the winning formula, producing the albums “ Stone In Love With You “ and “ Under Your Spell “, both highly praised by the critics and enthusiastically received by his fans.

Other titles released by Dominic include the videos “ Live In Galway “ and his TV concert special “The Entertainer “. 2002 saw the release of the double CD “The Very Best of Dominic Kirwan (Vol.2) “ and in 2003 he released a brand new Irish album “ Echoes of Ireland “ containing many personal favourites and evocative songs from Dominic’s youth. Fans eagerly awaited this album as it included his recording of The Fields of Athenry, a song that they had been waiting a long time for him to release.

Dominic continues to tour tirelessly, he says “ In recent years we have averaged 200 shows a year. We believe in taking music to the people. “ Never forgetting his roots, Dominic continues to set aside one weekend every year when he performs to fans in his hometown of Omagh and year on year the crowds just get bigger and bigger.

In 2002/2003 Dominic was seen making waves in the Caribbean where he headlined sell out cruises of the islands, joined by many of his stalwart fans as well as countless new converts. In the early part of 2005 Dominic traveled to Australia to perform over 30 dates and no doubt created another army of fans in the process. Also, in May of 2005 during his extensive UK tour Dominic will fulfil one of his lifetime ambitions by playing the London Palladium with Crystal Gayle.

The future continues to look very bright for this highly gifted and charismatic entertainer and if hard work is a measure of his success then Dominic Kirwan will continue to be at the top for many years to come.
